Self-Watering Plant Pots Built for Hydro Success

These self-watering plant pots are a smart choice if you want to spend less time watering and more time watching your plants thrive. With a built-in water reservoir and transparent design, they’re perfect for keeping an eye on root growth while delivering consistent hydration right where your plants need it most.

Ideal for semi-hydro setups, these automatic watering pots are best used with mineral substrates like SYBAStones Mineral Substrates, clay balls, perlite, zeolite or pumice. Just add your medium, fill the base with water, and let the system handle the rest.

Made for Mineral Substrates, Not Dry Mixes

This hydro substrate pot is designed specifically for tropical plants that enjoy moisture around their roots. Think Aroids, Calatheas, Marantas, Anthuriums, Dieffenbachia, and Alocasias, species that appreciate even, reliable moisture without staying soggy.

Using a semi-hydro method with the right materials improves root oxygenation, reduces the risk of rot, and gives your plants a stable, stress-free environment to grow.

If you're caring for cacti, succulents, or other plants that prefer dry, airy soil, these wick watering pots are not the right fit. These species don’t respond well to constant moisture, and would be happier in a breathable setup with SYBASoil Houseplant Soil and a regular pot.

Consistent Moisture, Less Effort

Each water storage pot features a lower chamber that holds a reserve of water, allowing your substrate to draw up moisture gradually. This keeps your plants evenly hydrated while reducing how often you need to water, a win-win for both you and your green friends.

The large drainage holes and side vents encourage airflow and prevent water from sitting stagnant. Combined with the clear pot walls, you’ll always know when it’s time to top up the reservoir or when your roots are getting too wet.

These moisture control pots are especially helpful for thick-rooted tropicals, which often need frequent watering. With this water reservoir planter, you can meet their needs without constant guesswork.

Designed With Clarity, Care, and Convenience in Mind

Crafted from durable PP5 plastic and fully recyclable, these easy care pots blend minimalist design with practical functionality. Their clean look fits seamlessly into any setup, and their transparency makes it easy to spot new roots, mold, or moisture issues early.

At Sybotanica, we believe plant care should feel easy, empowering, and joyful. These self-watering planters are perfect for plant parents who want to take the stress out of watering while still offering top-tier care.

Loved by more than 75,000 plant lovers, Sybotanica continues to make tools that support both your plant’s needs and your lifestyle, with sustainability and smart design always at the core.

FAQ's

When to use a self watering pot?

You can use a water reservoir pot with your hydro mix to create a semi-hydroponics set up. Most plants that love wet soils will appreciate this, such as aroids, calatheas, marantha, ficus, dieffenbachia, anthuriums and alocasias.

What soil to use with my self watering pot?

Both our SYBAStones and other hydro mediums such as clay balls, perlite and pumice work excellently with these pots. We do not recommend using our SYBASoils with our self watering pots, since the coconut coir in our soils can act as a sponge in this set up. It holds on to too much water, risking overwatering and root rot for your plants.

Is this different from soil care?

Yes, transplanting, watering and fertiliser can be very different from growing plants on soil. We recommend you to research if this method of growing is suitable for your specific plant.

How to transplant from soil to hydro?

You can place cuttings (grown in water) directly in our hydro mix. For established plants in soil we would recommend to remove the old soil, especially if you have had issues with fungus gnats, before transplanting in hydro mix. You can additionally choose to rinse the hydro mix before use, to get rid of any dust formed during transport.

How to water my plants in a self watering pot?

Remove the bottom part of the pot from the water reservoir. Fill up the water reservoir with fresh water and pot the pot back together.

Which fertiliser to use with my self watering pot?

We recommend to use our Mineral Slow release fertilisers for your plants in a selfwatering pots. These fertilisers make sure to release its nutrients to your plants slowly over time, even in the hydro mix is consistently wet due to its coating.
